Description

Spicy sheet pan taco pizza brings Mexican street flavors directly to your kitchen with crispy tortilla crust and zesty toppings. Melted cheese, seasoned ground beef, and fresh garnishes create a perfect weeknight dinner that satisfies pizza and taco cravings in one delicious bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein and Meat:

  • 1 pound (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 packet (1 ounce / 28 g) taco seasoning mix (or homemade seasoning: chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and oregano)

Base and Primary Ingredients:

  • 1 (16 ounces / 450 g) refrigerated pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup (250 ml) refried beans, warmed (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups (150 g) shredded cheddar cheese or Mexican cheese blend

Toppings and Garnishes:

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup (150 g) cherry tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup (120 g) black olives, sliced
  • 1 avocado, diced or mashed
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) sour cream, for drizzling
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 cup salsa or taco sauce (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sheet pan by heating the oven to 425°F and lightly greasing a 13×18-inch pan with cooking spray or parchment paper.
  2. Stretch the pizza dough carefully across the entire sheet pan, using fingertips to press into corners and edges. Brush olive oil over the surface and pre-bake for 7-8 minutes until the dough becomes lightly golden and sets.
  3. While the crust pre-bakes, sauté ground beef and onions in a skillet over medium heat until meat transforms from pink to brown. Drain excess fat from the pan.
  4. Mix taco seasoning and water into the cooked meat, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the beef uniformly. Reduce heat and let simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Spread a thin layer of refried beans across the partially baked crust, creating a flavorful base for the taco meat.
  6. Distribute the seasoned meat evenly over the bean layer, ensuring complete coverage of the crust.
  7. Generously sprinkle shredded cheese over the meat, creating a rich and melty topping.
  8. Return the pizza to the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes until cheese melts completely and crust turns crispy golden brown.
  9. After removing from the oven, quickly garnish with fresh toppings: crisp lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced black olives, creamy avocado, green onions, and cilantro.
  10. Finish by drizzling sour cream and serving salsa or taco sauce on the side for additional flavor and dipping.

Notes

  • Swap ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a leaner or vegetarian version that maintains the robust taco flavor profile.
  • Ensure the pizza dough is at room temperature before rolling to prevent tearing and create a more even, crispy crust that bakes perfectly.
  • Pat meat mixture dry after cooking to prevent excess moisture from making the pizza soggy, guaranteeing a crisp base that holds toppings beautifully.
  • Customize toppings according to dietary needs by using dairy-free cheese, Greek yogurt instead of sour cream, or adding extra veggies for more nutrition and crunch.
